Privacy Consultant

INQ is seeking an individual who has privacy experience to support our privacy consulting projects and other operational privacy initiatives for our clients. The successful candidate will provide privacy support to our clients and work on a range of projects that span our service lines in Canada and internationally. This position would be ideal for an individual seeking to leverage their experience in privacy and expand or develop their consulting skills. The position is remote, but the ideal candidate is in North America.

You have experience providing privacy advice in various industries, but experience with health information privacy is a must. You’ve worked internally as a privacy officer, or you have had experience as a privacy consultant in a reputable consulting firm. You’re an excellent writer, researcher, and you think strategically. Though you may not write computer code, you can analyze IT systems to perform privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and have done so in past roles. You can draft compliant and straightforward policies and procedures that meet client needs.

You are organized, motivated, and self-directed. You love to solve problems and find innovative solutions. You like working with others, but you’re also comfortable working independently. You’re interested in being active in the privacy community, and you have already started to develop a presence.

Role:

​

  • Support our Data Leadership Program: 

    • Managing and tracking client service requests

    • Receiving and coordinating responses to any privacy requests or events

    • Supporting clients in privacy operations, including response to privacy inquiries and complaints, access and correction requests, privacy breaches, consent management

    • Supporting clients by conducting privacy audits, development of and ongoing updates to privacy policies and procedures, and development and delivery of training and awareness materials

    • Logging and tracking privacy program information, supporting the conduct of privacy program operational reviews, privacy risk reviews, fulfilling client compliance review requests

    • Coordinating responses for requests for advisory services with our team of consultants and experts

    • Analyzing service requests and preparing service and KPI reports to clients.

  • Participate in client consulting engagements through a range of client-facing and support activities, including:

    • Research

    • Strategic planning

    • Business analysis

    • Facilitating client meetings and stakeholder engagements

  • Develop a range of content for clients, such as strategic plans, needs assessments, reports, stakeholder engagement materials, and privacy and information governance policies and programs.

  • Conducting privacy impact assessments, developing privacy programs and supporting client privacy capacity development

  • Apply project management and coordination skills and tools to support team members and clients to deliver client and internal projects effectively.

  • Contribute to business development activities associated, including sector research, preparing proposals and presentations, and participating in industry networking events.

Desired Skills:

​

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a related field (e.g., data, science, informatics, business administration or law preferred)

  • Demonstrated education and/or work experience in information privacy.

  • Related certifications such as CPHIMS, CIPP/C or CIPM would help you stand out.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of major Canadian privacy and access laws, particularly PHIPA, PIPEDA, US and EU privacy and data protection laws are assets.

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and consultation

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and customer services skills, including exceptional communications skills and solid public speaking/presentation skills, are a must.

  • Strong written communication skills, including presentation development, are also a must.

The successful candidate will work on a range of privacy projects that span our service lines in Canada and internationally. Job Duties:

​

  • Lead requirements gathering sessions, document business needs, draft data flows

  • Develop project management templates, including meeting agendas, meeting minutes, status reports and project/program budgets

  • Facilitate process review, documentation and re-engineering to meet project goals

  • Plan, organize and manage small projects and company enhancement efforts

  • Under supervision, draft privacy policies, procedures, privacy training materials and tools

  • Support excellent client relationship management and service

  • Maintain deep knowledge of and stay up-to-date on privacy legislation and regulations

  • Drafts blogs, client bulletins, and newsletters

​

  • Ability to take initiative

  • Can manage time efficiently, anticipate requirements, follow through and produce quality work to meet deadlines

  • Demonstrates inquisitiveness, as well as a willingness and ability to learn

Experience:

​

  • Previous experience in privacy, information security, informatics, or related field, as typically acquired during 1-3 years in a similar position

  • Experience managing projects; experience analyzing privacy and information security data is an asset

  • Proven experience facilitating cross-functional teams to achieve goals and meet timelines

 

Qualifications for Privacy Analyst:

​

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management Information Systems, Accounting Information Systems, J.D., or related discipline degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience

  • Proficiency with Microsoft365 products (SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams)

  • English language proficiency

Salary Range:

​

​The anticipated salary range for this position is $65,000-$110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. This range is intended to reflect the competitive market rate for this role and is commensurate with the applicant’s skills, education, and experience.
